Misty Fjords Day Kayak
The day begins very early in Ketchikan where we meet to get outfitted with paddling jackets and dry bags before boarding the boat for the Misty Fjords. In most weather, the journey to the Fjords is 2 hours long. We travel around Point Alava and into the Behm Canal. We stop at New Eddystone Rock, a magnificent 200 foot tall rock formation before entering Rudyerd Bay. We drop anchor in Punchbowl Cove and unload our kayaks. Your guide will run through the basics of paddling and help you master the skills you will need for the day. Our kayaks are stable fiberglass doubles and no prior experience is necessary to join our trip. We use double kayaks as they allow us to cover the most ground. For more experienced kayakers, single kayaks may be available if there is space on the boat. Once on the water in our kayaks, we paddle beneath the 3000 foot granite rock walls that the Misty Fjords are so well known for. Waterfalls cascade down the cliffs and seabirds nest in the crevasses. The paddling pace is leisurely to allow time for photography and exploration. Lunch is included and will be served picnic style on a wilderness beach. Afterwards we will have the chance to explore the shoreline rainforest. Wildlife in the Misty Fjords is diverse. We may encounter brown and black bears, Sitka black-tailed deer, wolves, mountain goat, beaver, mink and marten along the shores. In the water we often see harbor seals and we may even encounter Orcas or humpback whales. After paddling, we enjoy snacks on board the boat and watch for wildlife on the ride back to town. We aim to return to town by 6pm, but guests should allow extra time in case of weather delays.

Kayak Fishing is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, and Alaska is where it all began. Leave the crowds behind as you board your kayak and paddle a short distance to a group of several uninhabited rainforest islands where you will paddle, fish and view an eagle's nest up close.
